East London News: Research.

Research
Before i create the logo for my news program and website, i done some research and analysis of other news logo's. I did research on different news logo's so that i got a clear idea of who the news logo represents, The target audience it is aimed at and the reasons/decisions for its choice of Brand Identity.

These are the following news logos that i looked at:

BBC NEWS:

  • The BBC (British Broadcast Channel) News logo is for people that is interested in main headline news issues happening around the world, as well as in the UK and the region that they live in (i.e London)
  • Their audience is universal and is mainly attracted by middle and upper class workers, although it is also viewed a lot by a working and lower class audience, due to it being shown on the first terrestrial channel and being funded by Tax funds.
  • The brand identity for the BBC is Red and White. This connotes that they cover the biggest news headlines/stories all over the world as well as within Britain. This also tells you that they are a very popular news broadcasting company.
CHANNEL 4 NEWS:

  • Channel 4 news is mainly aimed at an older audience and for the viewers of Channel 4 themselves.
  • Their audience is a lower/working class audience that is roughly around the age range of 35+, bearing in mind that the Anchor is in his late 60's and the news program itself comes on just after the television program 'Paul O'Grady', which is a show that is mainly watched by an older audience.
  • Channel 4 use a brand identity of black and white and just the number '4'. This is because the news program is not a vital source/show on channel 4.
SKY NEWS:
  • Sky News is aimed at people that own digital broadband; Sky.
  • Their viewing audience is mainly working and middle class people, although it does relate to an upper class audience as well.
  • Sky News is a huge source to the 'sky' digital service. This is shown through their logo's brand identity, containing the main colour's of White and Red, with black and white text. This connotes that it is a leading news channel.
CNN NEWS:
  • CNN News is a popular news program within the USA.
  • The target audience for CNN is mainly a working and middle class audience, which is universal being male and female.
  • Their colour choice of red and white for their brand identity of the logo connotes that they cover the biggest news headlines around the world and within the USA. It also tells the audience that they are one of the main news providers within the USA.

LIVE FROM STUDIO FIVE:
  • Live From Studio Five is the news program for channel five.
  • Their audience is mainly working and middle class and is for both male's and female's most likely with a age range of 25+
  • The brand identity for the news program is pink and black, this symbolises that they are an additional program towards channel 5, but are not a main source of the channel itself.

CNBC NEWS:

  • CNBC News is an addition to the channel 'CNBC'
  • The audience for CNBC is middle and upper class males in their 30's+
  • Their brand identity consists of the colours black and a co-ordination of a rainbow representation. This shows that the news program is just an additional source to the main channel itself, as the main topics the channel focuses on is consumer news and business investments, such as stock exchange.
NEWSROUND:
  • Newsround is in relation to the children's channel CBBC.
  • The audience for Newsround is a younger and less formal audience between the ages of 12 - 16. This is shown through the mise en scene of the program, the brand logo, the anchors and the dialogue used within the news stories.
  • Their brand identity of green and purple connote that the news is just an additional program to the channel CBBC, and is aimed at a younger audience. It also shows that it is marketed by a sufficent budget, in contrast to BBC News which is funded by the government.

After i researched all of the following information on different news logo's, i decided that i would start doing some research and design planning for my own news logo for my news program and website; 'EAST LONDON NEWS'.

Advanced Production


My local news Program: East London News.

Audience

· Universal gender audience, appealing to both male and female.

· Aimed for people between the ages of 14 – 26+

· Social class: Lower/Working Class and Middle Class.

·

Market

· The marketing for my news program is average/sufficient.

· It will be advertised in East London papers such as Hackney Gazette and Stratford Gazette, as well as being as an advertisement on their websites.

· As it is marketed to an audience from the age of 14 years old, it will be shown at a time of 6:00PM and repeated the following morning at 7:00AM.

· It will be shown from Monday - Friday.

· The website will have the latest news and updates happening within east London daily.

Brand Identity

· Main logo colours: light blue with yellow and white, with a black outlining.

· Black colour font.

· Big and bold font for capitals of text.

· Title smaller than the capitals.

· Title Underneath the capitals

· Rotation Animation when heading to a new, news headline/Story.

Name

· East London News.

· Simple and effective.

· ‘ELN’ – abbreviating the news title/headline.
